With An Apple, I Will Astonish Paris

The exhibition was amazing.
It was way different from how I pictured it; the exhibition comprised about fifty works by Cézanne and over a hundred by eighteen other artists. The point of it was to really show how influential Cézanne was and still is in the art world.
Although Cézanne isn't one of my favorite artists, aesthetically speaking, it was really interesting and inspiring to see how he influenced so many different painters.
If you love art and art history, try to go see it! It's really great.
Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take pictures in the exhibition, but afterwards I poked around the rest of the museum and snapped a few of my favorites:

Even though I would be happy never seeing another piece of Christian art, maybe Good Friday put me in a more forgiving mood toward all of it.
I think the Annunciation is one of the most interesting artistic subjects. The colors of this were gorgeously vibrant in real life.

This literally took my breath away when I turned the corner and saw it. It's such a stunning, exciting painting.

I think this was by Thomas Eakins. The color of the dress caught my eye immediately; it was so unusually bright and pink.

This Tiffany decanter, on display with a million other pieces of American glass, is so precious and lovely. The tiny cups are adorable!

On another note, this is a terrific book by Billy Collins with an incredibly clever title. Just goes to show how far-reaching Cézanne's influence is.

Believe it or not, I'm going to another art exhibition tomorrow! Pierre Bonnard, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I discovered him recently on a trip to the Phillips Collection in D.C. and am insanely excited to see more of his paintings.
