These Hazards Of Love Never More Will Trouble Us

Since the entire blogosphere is doing it... FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER KIDS!

In my mind this was very beguiling-French-girl-meets-Annie-Hall-androgyny. I wore it to the Our Town audition and felt more like a stewardess than anything else.

The bag used to belong to my grandma. She is a very stylish (and generous!) lady. The oxfords were my mom's.

I really love the front of this shirt. The kimono-esque closure makes it much more elegant and chic and artsy than a standard white oxford.

Vintage white shirt, Target skirt, really old Ann Taylor oxfords, Coach purse

Last night I went to see The Decemberists in New York City. They played The Hazards of Love straight through, and it was absolutely exquisite. I think it might be my favorite album of all time.
Through the entire show I was praying they would play "Sons & Daughters" and then they closed with it! It was the most feel good moment of my life.

I have a few things on my mind and I was hoping you lovelies could help me out:
  • My skin tends to be somewhat oily in the summer, and my face ends up feeling really nasty on sweltering hot days. Can anybody recommend a good skin clearing face wash and/or moisturizer and/or acne fighter for sensitive skin?
  • I want to find the perfect pale pink and sheer white nail polishes. Any particular brands or shades I should try?
  • Please tell me some great places to go in Paris! Shops, restaurants, bakeries, museums, anywhere you think I might like. I promise to write down all your recommendations and try to visit them all!
  • In a similar vein, I know a little French music and want to know more. If you're familiar with any cheery French tunes, share them with me!
One more school day and three final exams (four if you count gym), and then I am free.

What a sweet set of photos!! I adore your bag, i was looking for one similar to that all summer with no luck... maybe next season (: have you ever tried clinique skincare? i get really oily skin in summer here too and find their moisteriser esp good since it tends to be more of a gel than a cream xxx

OPI nail lacquer in coney island cotton candy is light and summery. it's very light pink but not sheer!

Oooooh.....great outfit! For nailpolish you should try OPI or China Glaze, they sell basically every color you can possibly imagine and they last a long time!

For French music, there are two great soundtracks:

*Amélie

and

*The Chorus (Les Choristes) <--a movie you HAVE TO watch, btw)

Great outfit and very pretty shoes.

Highly recommend OPI nail-polishes. They go on nicely and I'm sure they have a nice pale pink in there somewhere?

Ps. Will be sharing a favorite french artist of mine sometime today and linking to you!xo

I use a dove face wash. It's really nice, and mildly scented (cucumber).

I love your oxfords, you have a very stylish family! In Paris you must check out the marches aux puces (flea markets) for really awesome clothes and other stuff you can't find anywhere else. And definitely listen to Yelle, Edith Piaf, Carla Bruni, and Uffie!

gorgeous outfit dearie .

st. ives apricot scrub (original) for your skin, it's in the bag by essie for your nails, laduree and colette for paris, and moi je joue by brigitte bardot for french music .

I'll have to have a look at the backstage photos, I don't think I've seen them before.

I'm in Paris from the 4th-7th if July for a school trip! I wish we had more freedom as I would love to explore the city in proper :) What are you planning on doing whilst you're there?

amazing oxfords and skirt!
i've found that saint yves apricot scrub for sensitive skin is great, with clinique toner. oil be gone! haha.

Anonymous said...

try the Murad acne line! their cleanser is gel based (best for oily skin types) and tingles a bit so it feels refreshing. for moisturizers, take a look at the same line.
also, someone mentioned Clinique. i find their acne line is a bit too harsh but their regular facial soap is pretty decent, and try their Dramatically Different moisturizing gel for the face! it's not too heavy.

buttttt if you have the budget, try Dermalogica. sooooo amazing. their special cleansing gel is aaaamazing and their oil control lotion is ever better.
ok i'll stop now. i work at Sephora so i have all these suggestions for you. haha

The Body Shop has a nice skincare range made on tea tree, though if your skin is super sensitive it may sting a little. It has a foaming cleanser which is nice and light but still gets any grime off. The whole range is great for my skin, but my favourites would be this cleanser, and then the nighttime blemish fade lotion and daytime mattifying moisturiser.

As for Paris, I can only dream of going! As a fellow writing enthusiast, one place I very much hope to visit is The Shakespeare Room; it's an old bookshop owned by an old man and his daughter. They let about six writers stay there for free for six months at a time to work on their writing, on condition that they read one book a day. I wish I could go stay!

For french music I love Emilie Simon. Some songs are pretty and light, some feisty and sexy.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

try liz earle, my skin is the same and this really helps, you can get the product for your skin type, and they send it all nicely wrapped up and you get a freeebie too if you get the summer package :), check out their website and let me know what you think :)

also for frech music, i know they dont sing in french but they have french in their name, listen to chester french :) they are amazing! also watch amelie :)

love your blog, your style is really cool and quirky :)

i always enjoy your blog so much :)

here's my advice:

1- for skin i use vichy normaderm face wash, scrub and toner

2- my favorite pink nail polishes are essie in fiji, l'oréal in sweet chiffon and one by l.a. girl that doesn't seem to have a name but is purple-ish pink and is sold at urban outfitters

3- everytime i go to paris, i visit the espace dali montmarte, the musée rodin, the parc montsouris, the sinequanone boutiques (even though we have some in montreal), kookai (where i spontaneously bought my prom dress) and the café de flore

4- as for french music: my absolute favorite is cali's first album, l'amour parfait. i also like louise attaque, 3ème oeil and sniper (the last two are french rap). as far as retro french music, i like jacques brel, georges brassens, serge gainsbourg and boris vian

sorry for bombarding you with info lol i hope it's useful :)
