When Your Heart Is An Empty Room

I absolutely adore the song, but currently my heart is far from an empty room, thanks to two things!

First, these photos by Sølve Sundsbø. The combination of flowy florals with perfectly architectural composition is so stunning.

(V Magazine, Issue 28)

Second, my award from Jules at Candy Hearts!

Neno's Award
The aims of this award:
  • As dedication for those who love blogging activity and love to encourage friendships through blogging.
  • To seek the reasons why we all love blogging!
  • Here are the rules of the award:
  • Put the award in one post as soon as you receive it.
  • Don't forget to mention the person who gives you the award.
  • Answer the award's question by writing the reason why you love blogging.
  • Tag and distribute the award to as many people as you like.
  • Don't forget to notify the award receivers and put their links in your post.
I love blogging because it gives me an opportunity to share all of my passions and inspirations, from fashion to music to Kurt Vonnegut. I used to wonder if loving fashion so much made me shallow, but seeing how much love is spread throughout the blogosphere has made me realize that nothing is shallow or stupid if you really care about it. I like people with passion, and blogging has allowed me to connect with so many passionate people!

Passing on the bloglove to Georgiana, Lori & Jenna, because they are beautiful people with beautiful blogs.

As Promised...

(February 1933, October 1935, December 1960, October 1967)

Vintage Vogue covers are retro and fantastic.

And now... poems! First three will be featured in Clockwise Cat, last one in Apt. Let me know what you think!

sleeping in socks

sleeping in my socks: a rare,
almost scientific occurrence
perhaps solely explainable by
my fierce concentration
upon this new, beautiful being
and complete disregard for
all things regular, shedding
my usual stoicism for
a perpetually foolish smile.

you like the word fiasco? what word fiasco?
what do you mean? i like the word fiasco!
a word fiasco? like a verbal disaster?
a debacle of the vernacular? a

well, i suppose t

jesus, you take everything so literally. that's the problem with you poets.

The publication is called apt and I sent in a poem about six weeks ago and forgot all about it and now they are publishing me in their upcoming twentieth issue, due online in late April!

And right after that, three more of my poems will be published in Clockwise Cat!

Now I suppose I really have to share some poems with you...
but that can wait until next time.

East Coast Girls Are Hip, I Really Dig Those Styles They Wear

Thank you all for being sincerely concerned with the state of my Monday, but it turned out okay! Cozy pajamas and a fun play rehearsal more than made up for the rest of my day.

Something I wish I had written... the following lyric from "Armchair" by Andrew Bird. The words are five hundred times better than the actual song.

"I dreamed you were a cosmonaut of the space between our chairs, and I was a cartographer of the tangles in your hair."

I want my summer to look like... the new Missoni ads.

Glamorous beachwear, flawless skin, and minimal sweating despite the brilliant sun? Yes please!

The funniest and most terrifying thing I have seen in a long time...

I would like to know your opinion about...

... toe cleavage. Do you like how it looks? Or do you find it weird? I used to think it was creepy, but now I like how it looks. Manolo Blahnik said that "the secret of toe cleavage, a very important part of the sexuality of the shoe, is that you must only show the first two cracks." And toe cleavage sans stockings is part of the unwritten dress code of the Voguette, according to Anna Wintour. Your thoughts?

(p.s. picture is not mine, and i speak of toe cleavage in general, not just for these shoes... found the photo here)

Something I have been craving for days on end...

... the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. If you live out west, I envy you for this. As much as I consider myself an East Coast girl, and even a European girl on occasion, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is one thing that makes me so incredibly happy to be in California, probably because the chain is nonexistent over here (of course, there are stores in Qatar and Malaysia but a location in New York or Boston is simply unthinkable!). My drink of choice is the English Breakfast Tea Latte. It's better than anything Starbucks has ever produced.

A couple more photos from my favorite person on the planet...

I am considering sharing some of my poetry with you guys, because writing is just as much of a passion and mode of self expression for me as fashion is. But I would need to think about what to show you. So we'll see!

Sadly, I must now depart to eat dinner and put on my absolute horror of a frumpy black choir dress for a school concert tonight. See you lovelies soon enough!

Staving It Off

Had a very bad case of the Mondays today.
Outfit was the definite highlight. This is my favorite cardie ever.
It was insanely windy when I took these, so forgive the rogue hair and skirt.

skirt, cardigan, & headband, forever 21 ~ tank, target ~ tights, mom's ~ shoes, converse ~ watch, gift

Cheering me up significantly? These photos by Sandra Freij. The colors are just so perfect and interesting. Will definitely post more by her soon.

If you have the Mondays as well, try these quick fixes:

the dark side of garfield
the most horrifying and hilarious web comic
a fascinating virtual tour
radio stations just for you
an insanely entertaining and meticulously organized shoe collection

Speaking of shoes, these are all adorable and to die for. This pair is my favorite.

I have developed an unwavering love for the A.P.C. spring/summer men's collection. It's very English-guido-meets-Alex-Kapranos-on-holiday, and the model is rather tasty. These are my favorites.

Hope you're having a better Monday than I am!

What I've Been Wearing

My new favorite item of clothing? This silk shirt that looks like it once belonged to a pregnant woman. I cut out the shoulder pads and it's officially the most comfortable thing I have ever worn.

shirt, thrifted ~ leggings, mango ~ shoes, nine west ~ belt, coach ~ hats, thrifted ~ bag, chanel

FRIDAY: Went to see my friends' band do a gig at our local teen center. They are talented and hilarious. As usual, I overdressed.

shirt, target ~ skirt, made by me ~ jacket, gift ~ ring, gift

TODAY: Accompanied my mom and brother to the mall because he needed shirts. I wandered off to find Forever 21, as usual, and was utterly shocked to find that the dinky but well stocked location I usually shop at has disappeared, and an enormous two story mecca has taken its place!!! After half an hour on the dressing room line and about six million pieces of clothing, with a meager $45 budget and an impatient mother, I left with three things.

NOM NOM NOM I love it so much. Saw a Milly piece exactly like this about a year ago and have been secretly lusting for a structured, high waisted, mustard colored skirt ever since. At last!

My love for feathered headbands is unexplainable and everlasting. I really want a peacock feather one, but this will happily suffice for now.

I also discovered this multi-hanger in a drawer under my bed, perfect for all the skirts that seem to be breeding within my wardrobe. Very nifty, non?

What have YOU been wearing?

I Had A Dream I Stood Beneath An Orange Sky

If I haven't mentioned this yet, follow me on Bloglovin'! I will bake you some cookies!

(photos by zoren gold & minori murakami, aka mi-zo)

Currently drinking: Water!

Currently eating: Just finished a bowl of espresso chip ice cream. My primary vice.

Current grooving to: Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch. So pretty. Really want to see him at Bowery Ballroom in April!

Currently supposed to be doing: Studying for my chemistry test. Bond angles are the bane of my existence.

Currently wearing on your feet: Nothing. Which might change soon because my house is freezing.

Currently looking forward to: The weekend. This has possibly felt like the longest week of my entire life.

Currently wanting: A high waisted light grey skirt to wear with everything. And to not epically fail my next Euro test.
And this pillow from Art Star.
Currently amused by: New Math by Craig Damrauer.

Current state of happiness: Pretty content, mostly because I got seven hours of sleep last night! More than I've slept in a while... I should really stop being an insomniac.

Current favorite song: The Blower's Daughter by Damien Rice. Ridiculous title, but it's absolutely gorgeous. Also, it's in the movie Closer which is one of my all time favorites.

Current favorite musical artist: Andrew Bird or The Decemberists or Death Cab For Cutie (perpetual).

Current favorite meal: Red velvet cupcakes.

Current favorite movie: American Beauty. Dying to watch it again.

Currently reading: Fight Club, On The Road, Timequake, Too Late The Phalarope.

Currently hearing: World Spins Madly On by The Weepies.

Current favorite person: Kurt Vonnegut.

Currently wearing: Thrifted silk shirt with sailboats on it (will do an outfit post soon, I promise!) and black Mango leggings.

Currently thinking about: Natasha Richardson. So unbelievably sad for Liam and her sons.
