You Man The Island And The Cocaine And The Elegant Cars

Be warned for serious food porn.

(Camilla Åkrans for Numeró)

Currently drinking: Nothing. But I had a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee before and it was so delicious.

Currently eating: Nothing. But I really want to be eating just about everything I've seen here. It all looks so mouthwateringly good.

Current grooving to: Bird noises outside my window.

Currently supposed to be doing: Probably reading The Merchant of Venice or studying for my math quiz.

Currently wearing on your feet: Nothing.

Currently looking forward to: SUMMER IN PARIS! I am counting the days.

Currently wanting: To be her.

(dripbook)

Currently amused by: Virtual card tossing, the table of condiments, and this bearded knit hat.

Current state of happiness: Pretty happy, mostly in a lazy and distracted way, and very happy that I got out early from rehearsal!

Current favorite song: Hm, this is difficult. Probably "Your New Twin Sized Bed" by Death Cab for Cutie, but that will probably change by the time I finish this entry.

From the Death Cab concert I went to in October. Unbelievably epic.

Current favorite musical artist: The Decemberists, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie. I haven't found any awesome new music in a while, any recommendations? I feel like you all have a decent grasp on my musical taste by now.

Current favorite meal: Tartines (baguette with butter and jam), café crème and fresh orange juice. Sorry for being such a Francophile.

Current favorite movie: Velvet Goldmine. My friends and I sort of created a little cult around it. Stellar glam rock outfits, a cameo by Brian Molko, Christian Bale in flared pants and eyeliner... perfection.

(screenshotworld)

Currently reading: The Virgin Suicides. Really good so far, reminds me of The Bell Jar a lot.

Currently hearing: "Hallelujah" cover by Rufus Wainwright. It's so pretty, but nothing beats Jeff Buckley. Leonard Cohen original, on the other hand, makes my ears bleed.

Current favorite person: Marc Jacobs, for sponsoring this exhibition. So excited! Somebody come with me!

Currently wearing: Old silk tank and sweatpants from my kickass female choir. Yes, we all got matching sweatpants. We're adorable.

Currently thinking about: Nothing, because "Time To Pretend" just came on and it's the perfect not-thinking-about-anything-and-just-bobbing-your-head-around song.

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

I have returned!

The choir trip was... well, I hesitate to say fun. It was truly exhausting, with a few really fantastic and awesome moments.
The sleep depravity and disgustingly hot weather was made entirely worthwhile by...

... the fact that my select female chorus won best overall vocal group at the entire competition!

We were all so excited when they announced it. We jumped up screaming and clapping and hugging each other.
It felt so satisfying and wonderful.

When I speak of the most wonderful time of the year, I of course am talking about the annual book sale at the public library in my town.
Everyone in town donates all their old books, which are then amassed in the basement of the library, shoved into boxes, and available for you to sort through.
Everything costs between fifty cents and two dollars, and they always have the most insane selection of books. I mean, literally, thousands of books.

See my spoils above.
If you've read any of them, let me know what you think!

A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle
Atonement by Ian McEwan
Paradise Lost
by John Milton
The Oedipus Plays by Sophocles
A Cup of Tea by Amy Ephron
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce
The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl
On the Road by Jack Kerouac
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
Requiem for a Lost Empire by Andrei Makine
The Cheese Monkeys by Chip Kidd
Hotel Sarajevo by Jack Kersh
Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger
Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Inferno by Dante
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass
Embers by Sandor Marai
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
two copies of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (one regular, one fancy and linen bound with illustrations)

I think I might love books more than I love anything else.

Except maybe for this vintage blazer Karla is wearing in her latest post.
I am in love with it.
Possibly the coolest item of clothing I have ever seen in my life.

A dress like this one from Forever 21 is at the top of my wishlist right now.
Strapless, flawlessly structured, with a big romantic floral print.

The photos I posted above (from weheartit) are so soft and lazy and balmy.
Like the weather right now, but much prettier.

A more substantial post will come soon, I promise. But right now I'm running on about fourteen hours of sleep in three days, my house is unbearably stuffy, and I have to write an essay for English even though I left my books and notes at school. Phenomenal.

Enjoy the last bit of your weekend!

Tra La La

Just wanted to drop you all a quick note you let you know that I'll be in and around Washington D.C. until very late Saturday, sans internet access...
The time has come for our annual choir/band trip! Crazy bus rides, sleepless nights, and way too much junk food will surely ensue within the next forty-eight hours.
See you all on Sunday!

Here Comes The Rain Again, Falling From The Stars

Each of these capture a little bit of why I love rain so much.
It just blurs the lines, you know? Makes everything kind of like a dream.

EXCITING NEWS...

I GOT MY BRACES OFF!

My teeth feel all funny.
And I have to wear retainers that make me talk like Sean Connery on Celebrity Jeopardy.
But anything is better than braces.
And now I can smile properly without feeling vile.

Had to basically scarf down dinner and race out of the house for Brigadoon rehearsal, but not before I snapped some photos. It was just one of those outfit-you-feel-really-awesome-in-and-really-must-capture-on-film days.

crochet top, mom's ~ tee (underneath), gap ~ jeans, pacsun ~ boots, vintage frye ~ necklace, forever 21

I love, love, love this crochet top that I purloined from my mom.
It's from The Gap! When did The Gap stop being so cool?
The fact that I nabbed these boots at a thrift store for under twenty dollars is pretty much the shining accomplishment of my life.
I hope my feet never grow so I can wear them forever.

Of course, what would the perfect drizzly day be without a drizzly day poem?
I wrote this ages ago, in exactly this kind of weather.

written in the aftermath of a rain storm

there is something inexplicably romantic
about the aftermath of an autumn rain storm.
the air is chilly and steely and smells of
damp moss, but it holds a stillness so rarely
seen here, and the only sound for miles is
the slip-crack-drip of meandering drizzle.
how i would love to dance in the mud with you -
or better yet, kiss passionately under a
soggy tree until the sun dazzles again.

She Could Throw A Whirling Dervish Out Of Whirl

(we heart it)

There's just something about balloons.
They make me smiley and giddy.

We had the most perfect weather imaginable this weekend, so I took advantage by putting on my new favorites clothes and dancing around outside in them.

sweater, vintage ~ silk tank, mom's ~ shorts, forever 21 ~ shades, forever 21

The world would be a better place if everyone was barefoot all the time.
Really, who isn't happier being barefoot?
My friends call this my Golden Girls sweater.

dress, vintage

I usually end up feeling stiff and posed in my pictures.
I tried to remedy that by twirling around a lot. It helped.
The dress worked well with being spun, don't you think? It's very photogenic.
While whirling around I had one bit from The Sound of Music stuck in my head:

She'd outpester any pest, drive a hornet from its nest, she could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl. She is gentle, she is wild, she's a riddle, she's a child, she's a headache, she's an angel, she's a girl.

This dress makes me feel like a whirling dervish.
And also like an extra from one of my favorite movies, Mona Lisa Smile.

(imdb)

Can someone explain to me the difference between thrifted and vintage?
Are they the same, and vintage just sounds fancier? Or is there actually a difference?

And finally, a poem. It reminds me of spring.

exhilaration is the breeze ~ emily dickinson

Exhilaration is the Breeze
That lifts us from the Ground
And leaves us in another place
Whose statement is not found —

Returns us not, but after time
We soberly descend
A little newer for the term
Upon Enchanted Ground —

Spring break is finally, most unfortunately, over.
Wish me luck.
