With An Apple, I Will Astonish Paris

The exhibition was amazing.
It was way different from how I pictured it; the exhibition comprised about fifty works by Cézanne and over a hundred by eighteen other artists. The point of it was to really show how influential Cézanne was and still is in the art world.
Although Cézanne isn't one of my favorite artists, aesthetically speaking, it was really interesting and inspiring to see how he influenced so many different painters.
If you love art and art history, try to go see it! It's really great.
Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take pictures in the exhibition, but afterwards I poked around the rest of the museum and snapped a few of my favorites:

Monets & Pissarros

Degas

Monument to Victor Hugo, Rodin

Wouldn't this make a stunning editorial?
Even though I would be happy never seeing another piece of Christian art, maybe Good Friday put me in a more forgiving mood toward all of it.
I think the Annunciation is one of the most interesting artistic subjects. The colors of this were gorgeously vibrant in real life.

This literally took my breath away when I turned the corner and saw it. It's such a stunning, exciting painting.

I think this was by Thomas Eakins. The color of the dress caught my eye immediately; it was so unusually bright and pink.

This Tiffany decanter, on display with a million other pieces of American glass, is so precious and lovely. The tiny cups are adorable!

On another note, this is a terrific book by Billy Collins with an incredibly clever title. Just goes to show how far-reaching Cézanne's influence is.

Believe it or not, I'm going to another art exhibition tomorrow! Pierre Bonnard, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I discovered him recently on a trip to the Phillips Collection in D.C. and am insanely excited to see more of his paintings.
I can spare you all the artsy fartsy photographs this time, unless of course you want to see them!

I probably won't post again until late this week, so have a great few days! Mwah.

I once visited Cezanne's painting studio, it was really interesting! There were still many things that he portrayed, so that it felt as if he had only just left the room :)

amazing, lucky you! I love Turner's paintings.
Thanks for reminding me I should take my lazy arse and visit some museums once I'm back in London. Shame on me for not taking advantage of where I live.

ooo, you're so lucky! so much art!! and cezanne...oh, i would have liked to see that exhibit!
i saw degas' little ballerina at the philadelphia art museum a couple years ago..
at that same museum I saw a painting of the annunciation that really stood out to me -- it didn't show mary as some perfect angelic being but as a human girl who was young, with a slightly-scared-that-there's-an-angel-in-the-room look on her face, and halo-less (shocking for an annunciation painting, i know!). I wish I still remembered the name of the artist, but sadly I don't.

It looks amazing. I have to admit I used to be a bit iffy about Turner but the more of his work I see the more I appreciate what a genius he was

i saw a cezanne exhibit at the national gallery. he is absolutely amazing. in person the paintings are at least 20 times greater than in slides. I'm a super art history kid, so I'm so glad you posted on one of the greatest artists.
