In Fair Verona, Where We Lay Our Scene

Last night my mom took me to the ballet!
We saw Romeo & Juliet at Lincoln Center. It was absolutely gorgeous.
I generally dislike the story, but the movement and the costumes and scenery were so mesmerizing.

It's official... I am a published poet!
It's so odd seeing my name and my words in print, but in the best way possible.

Also... the most exciting thing has happened to me. Seriously.
I took the Teen Jeopardy qualifying test online about two months ago.
And yesterday I got an e-mail saying that I qualified to move on to the live auditions!
So in about a month I get to audition in New York City...
... and then maybe be on Jeopardy.
I am the happiest person alive!

Watch this piece. Just watch it.
It's really fantastically done. I am eternally grateful to 60 Minutes for driving home the point that fashion is not painfully stupid and requires an unbelievable amount of dedication.
Anna Wintour looks like such a teddy bear with her sunglasses off!

In honor of my first ballet... soft neutrals, basic silhouettes, and striking, sensual black details.

Stella McCartney silk jersey dress, Elle Macpherson silk briefs, Repetto flats, Cosabella camisole, Cosabella bra, Alexander McQueen fringed dress, Lover bodysuit, Vera Wang silk and organza dress, Mimi Holliday by Damaris bra.

I find it interesting that you don't like the play. We are reading it in English class and I quite enjoy it. Why don't you like it?

How can the Romeo and juliet story bore you? You should watch Romeo+Juliet with Leonardo and Claire Danes, breath taking!

okay. seeing your life laid out like that makes me realize YOU ARE ONE LUCKY GIRL. i would like full details on ballet--and if not in a post, please tell me tomorrow! maybe we could go to the ballet on our double date? ;) but until then...i LOVE the fact that you put the designers in pink and the clothing item in black at the end--nice classy, ballet touch. WHAT IS THAT WHY YOU DRESSED LIKE YOU WERE A BALLERINA TODAY! GIRL!!! anyway, congrats again on your poem and jeapardy! YOU ARE A STAR.

OOo I love the ballet. Glad you liked it. The costumes are gorgeous. Good luck with your audition. Aren't you terrified to go on TV?

I love the ballet, though I'm quite biased I suppose since I grew up with it, and am aspiring to make a career of it.
I hadn't ever seen Romeo and Juliet until this February, and I must say it has become may favorite ballet. Just amazing, and emotional, and spectacular! I'm glad you were able to go see it, and that you enjoyed as much as you did. :D

Oooh...I have never been to a ballet before. I'd certainly love to see the Russian Ballet.

Your poem is very lovely and inspiring :)

And I just watched the interview...I have to admit, I used to rather dislike Anna but she seems so much more 'real' and sympathetic here.

So jealous you were at the ballet! I love the costumes they have. x

I'm sort of amazed by how similar the real life Vogue office is to that in the Devil Wears Prada! Ballets are so wonderful. I went to see Edward Scissorhands as a ballet a while ago and it was absolutely incredible- I was crying at the end!

Hannah said...

Oh my goodness, it really was amazing! It was all pastel colours and dreamy 50s clothing. Then at the end it 'snowed' over the audience!

GASSSSSP YOU GENERALLY DISLIKE ROMEO AND JULIET?

RockerJewlz said...

Congratulations on the poem...my home town is San Luis Obispo so it was fun to see that.

I agree with the Anna Wintour comments...it was such a total surprise to see. It was funny that my thoughts were flipping from "wow she seems so nice" to "wait, isn't this the person Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada is modeled after?"

Meryl didn't seem mean at all...at first.

Sure was fun watching Anna constantly fussing with her hair. I love Vogue...it is my go-to for art inspiration.
